In morning trading, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 34.16, or 0.3 percent, to 11,168.45. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 3.74, or 0.3 percent, to 1,212.41, while the Nasdaq composite index rose 5.18, or 0.2 percent, to 2,524.25.
Indexes immediately reversed after the home sales report. They had been slightly lower in early trading as investors tried to balance easing concerns about Greece's debt problems with some mixed earnings reports and new data on durable goods orders.
