Find The Home of Your Dreams: Myrtle Beach Real Estate
You know what you are looking for: a nice town in which to raise your family, somewhere with a rich history, a warm climate with four distinct seasons, lots of entertainment options, and a community-wide appreciation for the natural resources of the area. Perhaps you have started to wonder if you are ever going to find the right place to buy a home and settle down with your family. If that is the case, you need look no further than some of the Myrtle Beach real estate available for sale right now.

First settled by colonists in the late 1600s, the area had long been home to the Waccamaw Indians. Both Long Bay and Little River were used for fishing and as a means of travel. When the colonists arrived, they attempted to set up plantations, mostly to grow tobacco and indigo, but they quickly discovered the sandy soil was not the best for cultivation of these crops. After this failure, the area remained largely uninhabited by colonists until after the Civil War. Much of the abandoned land was purchased at that time by the Conway Lumber Company, and the company built the Conway & Seashore Railroad in order to transport their lumber. The railroad caused the area to begin to grow steadily. So, railroad and lumber company employees were the first "tourists," to Myrtle Beach, which was called "New Town." They would spend weekends there, relaxing from the hard, manual labor of their daily lives.

In 1938, "New Town" officially became known as Myrtle Beach, named in honor of the "wax myrtle," a shrub that grows abundantly in the area. Myrtle Beach real estate eventually became more popular, as the town became more and more popular as a tourist destination.

Tourism in the area is healthy, and contributes to the economy. Ten million visitors come to Myrtle Beach each and every year, and that means jobs for local residents. Tourism also means that Myrtle Beach real estate holds its value well, because you can turn a piece of empty Myrtle Beach real estate into a profitable bed and breakfast for resale, or keep it and reap the long-term profits.

If you are thinking of raising your family on a little corner of Myrtle Beach real estate, the area's education system is something you will want to consider. Horry County Schools provide a quality public primary and secondary education to the residents of Myrtle Beach, and there are also multiple post-secondary options in the area. Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College are both an easy drive from Myrtle Beach, and Webster University has a branch in Myrtle Beach, as well.

What a great city in which to raise a family! A long and rich history, a steady local economy and a wealth of education options await you, as you consider Myrtle Beach as a home or for investment purposes.
