Success Stories - Jerry H.
When Jerry began his real estate career, he was a single dad and his first priority was raising his sons. Real estate provided him with the flexibility and income to become closely involved in his children's lives—and to be active in his community.
But the road after his initial success (he purchased 52 properties between 1996 and 1999) was somewhat bumpier than the road to his success. Jerry's boundless enthusiasm led to overextension, and he was forced to declare bankruptcy.
The bankruptcy didn't deter his spirit. He was able to maintain some of his properties and actually improved his creative financing strategies when he couldn't use traditional lenders.
Today, Jerry has recovered from his financial woes and is managing multiple real estate education, management, and service companies, as well as maintaining his portfolio of real estate.
"If your greed outweighs your management skills, you're going to go under," Jerry warns new investors. "From the time that I started in this business up until now, it hasn't been a smooth transition. But what's worth having is worth working for. I wouldn't change anything," he smiles.
