For many years taking a class meant the same thing: Students enter classroom, sit down, listen passively to an instructor lecturing in monotone, take the occasional test, and finally are free to take another class with a similar amount of joy. Thankfully this is changing! Today there are many different options for class structure, including real estate classes, and some of them do not even require you leaving the comfort of your own home.
One highly flexible option includes online courses. There are different ways an online class can be structured but many of them center around reading the material on your own time, having a weekly time to “talk” online with the instructor and other students, and taking tests to show your understanding of the material. There is also new trend toward a type of “hybrid” course style that incorporates typical classroom learning such as lectures, labs, and hands-on activities with readings, tests and, sometimes, discussions done online. With a “hybrid” type class you might only have to attend a physical classroom one day a week, making this a more feasible option for busy parents or those with full-time jobs. With a real estate class this arrangement may look like this: reading daily in your free time, attending an online lecture on Monday, taking a test on Wednesday, and meeting the group in the classroom on Friday to role play meeting with prospective clients and learning how to network. Classes are also becoming increasingly hands-on, focusing on practical issues you will face in your career. Instead of reading about how to judge the value of a home in your area and the best way to market the home, your group may visit local open houses and get a real-life look at how other Realtors® handle this aspect of navigating their clients through today's competitive housing market.
In any case, classes of all types are shifting from the traditional academic schedule a more flexible format to appeal to a variety of students. Maybe online courses just are not for you but you still need flexibility because of other obligations. Classes are now also held in nontraditional locations like malls and hotels which may be more appealing to those who wish to avoid the typical academic atmosphere of a college or university. Some institutions are also allowing students to begin classes at various times during the year, deviating from the typical September-May schedule. There are also classes offered at different times of day and on the weekends, giving students the option to attend class for five hours on a Saturday instead of one hour a day Monday-Friday. This allows more students to advance their careers because the flexibility accommodates their lifestyle.
Real estate classes are keeping up with the ever-changing dynamic of our lives. They are going to start to incorporate things like multiple test-taking options and strategies, embracing a variety of learning styles. By looking at a variety of class options, including all those mentioned above, asking lots of questions and not being afraid to inquire about or suggest the accommodations you need, you will find the real estate class that is best-suited for your individual needs and your lifestyle, while advancing your career.
