Credit help regarding (Military war Injuries) 4 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
Quick question I hope some-one knows or can guide me in the right direction.

Quick story: Got hurt in Iraq am now 100% disabiled military and early retired.
When I got home the bank already took my car (re-possesed it) and they said "we predicted you were going to have problems financialy sooner or later so we took vehicle now so we could sell it quicker" WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT?

Anyway they have destroyed my credit badly and two other companies also have charged me a substantial amount for some bills. My home-depot card I owed 65 dollars and now with all charges and other money items I owe them 650 dollars.

Okay, while in Iraq I saved 90% of my money, also I already own a home in virginia (have tenant there while I go through physical therapy home with my parents). well my plans was to get some more cash from my equity and have around 150 to 200 thousand cash. Then purchase 2,3 or 4 rental properties within 12-18 month time _frame_. Ive been reading the Sheets package for over 8 years now am im mentaly ready to go out there and start my own career. Until well you know.........

Can anyone tell me if these companies have broken a government law by going after me for having being disabiled due to supporting my country. People have told me the gov. protects us but no-one whom ive talked to (military) knows or cares to help.

im hoping someone here can help me fix my credit for i dont know if im protected and if i am i dont know where to go but im stuck and I do not want to borrow money from private investors. I want to do this on my own and Ive planned it for years and now that im financaily ready my credit is really hurting me.

sorry for the long note I wasnt sure how much i wanted to say. I left alot out but thats the main history of whats going on.

Thanks for your time

I have never heard of a vehicle being repossessed because they "foreseen" your financial difficulty. As far as the Home Depot Credit Card, that is something entirely different.

My advise to you is seek legal advice. Depending on how long ago the vehicle was repossessed and other factors (i.e. late payments), you may be able to have this removed from credit and seek damages. Your other option is to gather all of your papers regarding the vehicle and file disputes with all major credit reporting agencies (i.e. TransUnion, Equifax, etc.). They will do most of the footwork for you and if the bank can't prove they had the right to take the vehicle back it will be removed from your credit. This does take some time but is well worth it.

Please be advised, this is not "professional" advice in any manner. This is just my personal opinion and what I would do if I were in that particular situation.

Yes, you are protected! I'm not sure if under the Americans with Disabilities Act, but I would contact your VA and speak with someone there. My husband spent a year in Afghanistan and has some issues himself.

I want to thank you for serving our country and hope things work in your favor!

Hello Skye,

I read your post and called upon a retired marine that served in Vietnam. Here is his suggestion:

The only avenue I can think of for this individual; is for him to contact a local VSO (Veterans Service Officer) in his community. Their purpose is to assist veterans, and they have a wealth of knowledge on resources available to aid the veteran. Second, contact his district US Senator or Congressman for them to intercede for him. Also, he should see an attorney who is versed in the dilemmas Veterans face when returning to the US from Iraq.

I truly hope this info helps you. Thank you for your service to our country.

Take care, God bless!

Tony
