If you are looking for a home loan, most lenders (especially for an FHA loan) will look at how your credit has been since the bankruptcy - and most won't touch you unless you are 24 months out of the bankruptcy. Once you have secured that 1st mortgage loan, make sure you make your payments on time every month.
Start small with a secured or unsecured credit card or two, and make sure to make your payments on time every single month. A couple of credit card companies to try are Orchard Bank or HSBC. A car loan will help re-build your credit also. You will have a higher interest rate, due to the bankruptcy but it's worth the payment to get your credit straightened out. And, again, make sure to make your payments every month, and on time. Thirdly, get a copy of your credit report and review it for any inaccuracies whatsoever. Try this _link_ for a free copy of your credit report:

After you have been successful in securing a credit card or two, make sure never to exceed your credit limit. Keep the cards for 6 months, and them pay them off. If you can show that you have been paying on an open line of credit for 6 months without being late, then you are well on your way to repairing your credit. Lenders like to see accounts that have minimal balances, but also like to know that there are other companies out there extending you credit.
If you have any collection accounts since the bankruptcy, pay them off immediately in full. Send the documentation showing you have paid the account to all 3 credit reporting agencies (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax). Do not trust a collection agency to report your account being paid in full to the credit reporting agencies. I just cleared 2 accounts that were on my credit report that had been paid off for 4 years and were still being reported as current.
Finally, don't expect miracles overnight. It usually takes anywhere from 6-24 months to clean your credit up, depending on how bad it has been. Be patient though, and some day you can give some good advice on how to help others clean up their credit.
Good Luck!
