Work Through the Fear

My students tend to find that first step the most frightening. I did, too, back when I started. That first purchase might seem unattainable, but only because you've never done it before.
Here's an exercise that will help. Think of something else you did for the first time that had a positive result. (Skied down a hill? Fixed the light fixture in the hall?) Remember how you worked through the fear that you couldn't do it and did it anyway? Focus on the successful outcome and, especially, on your own sense of accomplishment.
Let that example spur you on to make that first offer. If it's refused, make another, and then another.
You'll be glad you did. Remember the adage, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
Another fear that investors sometimes experience is the fear of being "different," and that my program is just not going to work for them. These concerns are expressed in a variety of ways, such as, "I'm too old," "I don't have a formal education," "I'm too young," and "I live in the wrong area."
I'm here to tell you that hard work, persistence, and a positive attitude can overcome all of these perceived differences. Once you decide to do it, nothing can stop you from succeeding as a real estate investor.
Have you ever had to work through your fear of doing something new or different? What happened?
