How to Find Real Estate Agencies That Cater to Investors

As a new real estate investor, finding one or more real estate agencies to work with should be at or near the top of your to-do list. There are several ways to find agencies that specialize in assisting real estate investors.

The first and simplest is to look at the advertising out there. Look at local real estate companies' websites, billboards, newspaper ads and yellow page listings. Do they mention real estate investing? Are you their target market? Or do they cater more to the homeowner looking to sell their single-family home and buy a different one? Once you locate three or four that mention investing in their advertising, you can move to step two.

The second step in locating real estate agencies that specialize in helping investors is to ask questions. Call around, talk to different agents at several different agencies, and perhaps you'll discover the perfect fit with the perfect experience. Ask about their past experiences. Don't be afraid to ask open-ended questions to get them talking. "Tell me about…" is a good way to get the ball rolling so you can visit with them and really evaluate their expertise and how they fit with your style.

One of the very best ways to find investor-friendly real estate agencies is word-of-mouth. Talk to other investors. Ask them if they can refer you to a couple of agencies they think highly of. Referrals are a great way to make quality contacts, and looking for a good real estate agency is no exception. Talking to multiple investors about the agencies they have worked with is a wonderful way to get an insider's view. Would they use a particular agency again? Why or why not? Speaking to several different investors should allow you to gather opinions on multiple firms, and sometimes hear about the same firm from multiple points of view.

Once you've narrowed your list of potential firms down to two or three, you can start asking more agent-focused questions. Who was the real estate agent they dealt with? How was he or she particularly helpful? What could the agent have done differently to make the transaction smoother? Selecting the right agent for you is nearly as important as making sure that the real estate agencies you consider are a good fit for you as an investor. An inexperienced agent at a great agency isn't going to be nearly as beneficial to you as a superstar agent at a mediocre agency.

There are many ways to find the real estate agencies that really go out of their way to help investors. With quality research, you're sure to find the right one for you!
